Really bad location for single traveler looking for friends, 500 baht Joiner fee posted

I have very mixed feelings about this place. It's actually a very nice, nearly brand new hotel, in a really crappy location. The styling of the place is very interesting, very trendy, a cross between post modern and art deco, almost to the point of parody. The room furnishings are quite nice. If it were located near Chaweng, or Lamai, it would be ALOT more desireable. They also charge a hefty joiner fee, that is posted on signs in the lobby - but that's almost academic, because it is so far from any action that you will be hard pressed to actually bring any new friends back with you to the hotel. At night, the 35 baht songtows become 300-400 baht rip-offs between Maenam and Chaweng. The breakfast restauant by the lobby, and the rooftop restaurant, were both excellent. The upstairs pool is not big, but it's quite nice.
If one already has their companion with them, and they want to be AWAY from the action of Chaweng and Lamai, and stay at a very aesthetically interesting place for a fair price, this will fill the bill nicely. For a single traveller looking for night life, the location is TERRIBLE.
