Pros: Nice 5 star hotel in the middle of town. You can book through planet holiday on this site and get a big discount.
Cons: Not very guest friendly. heavy joiner fee.

It is a good hotel but their guest policy is very bad. Forget about 600bt and try 1000. I was there about a month ago and did they make the girl feel bad. Looked at her like she was a serial killer made her fill out a long form etc etc. I was booked in for 5 days but only slept there on the first night. The rest of the time I just checked in a 500bt hotel for the night. I got the RGR as a freeby on my Airline ticket so the money was not wasted. Don't go to this Hotel unless you want a headache. Having said that it was a nice place! Mai Suwai (April 2000) Stayed at the Mariott back in late 99. The rate was about 2500B with ABF for a deluxe room.

True 5 stars hotel in every sense. Hotel was extremely strict about Thai girlfriend policy and will charge 800B for any guest checking in with a Thai lady. I escaped the 800B charge because my booking agent in BKK specified my Thai girlfriend's name during the phone in reservation and also on the booking voucher. Even with this the front desk played dumb and asked me to pay the 800B anyway. I pointed out the name of the hotel reservation manager written on my voucher and said this conflicted with my booking understanding. After 10 minutes or so I was told the charge would be waived. Two young Japanese fellows were also checking in next to me and they had 4 Thai girlfriends with them they were asked to pay 800B X 4 and they did. Obviously they were on a different budget than me. There was a very alert security guard at the elevators so bringing a joiner to your room would not be possible.

The rooms were very nice but somewhat modest in size. There are no real ocean view unless you are on the 6th floor or higher. They will only place you on the higher floors if you make a point about it. Location is superb in every sense. The adjacent Royal Garden shopping mall offers a lot to do when you are too lazy to go out this is especially nice during the rainy season. The mall offers 4 movie theaters and several entertainment areas for the kids. The food court on the top of the mall offers a large variety of very decent food for very modest prices. The large swimming pool has excellent filtration because the water felt very fresh and it didn't sting my eyes. The hotel is about a 5 minutes walk to the popular Walking Street where many shops and outdoor seafood restaurants are located.

This is a great hotel for families because of its 4 star operation and the adjacent shopping mall with many of its offering for the wife and kids. For single types that want a luxury hotel with convenience do be aware of the 800B Thai girlfriend charge and I think this charge is per night. Unless you specify your girlfriend's name in advance during the booking chances are they will make you pay the 800B. Tango Jim (December 2000)

Pros: Great Postion Nice rooms all mod cons!
Cons: Lady Guest hassles!

Great Hotel - Very Bad Guest policy! Excellent facilities great position right in the heart of the action. To bring your Lady Guest back with you will cost around 1000 Baht per night! Guards will actually chase you should you try to go straight to your room so not much chance of avoiding paying. I found it cheaper to get a room at another hotel. On top of this they take pleasure in humiliating your Girl while you pay and try their best to make you feel bad too. I stayed here September 2000. This was while it was still the Royal Garden so not sure if its any different now Marriott has taken over....but unless they change the staff I doubt it! Good hotel as long as you dont want to take guests in.

Pros: You cannot beat the location!!!
Cons: Bad guest policy!!!

Real nice hotel not in the league of some of the top hotels across the world but nice none the less! Rooms are very adequate and reasonably equiped. Location is what really makes this hotel!! Situated right in the heart of the action but once in the hotel and grounds you would never know it!

Lovely pool area set in gardens with the hotel surrounding it which helps cut out the noise from the surrounding streets. Nice swim up bar! Exits from the hotel lead directly on to Beach street Second Road or into the shopping Plaza next door! When I visit Pattaya I always stay at the Royal Garden now Marriot Hotel. Down side as others have said is the guest policy!! They really try to discourage you from bringing back TG's tight security and $1000 joiner fee(Mar 01). This said it is okay with me as I do prefer to pay for a ST/LT room locally and so keep things seperate from the hotel. ST room B350 LT room 600 on average.

Pros: One of the three most luxurious and best positioned hotel in the whole of Pattaya. Faultless friendly service all round. You are even given the name and inhouse extension number of your room maid.
Cons: Expensive but excellent compared to the many budget but good hotels in pattaya. Expensive Guest Friendly.

Formerly 'The Royal Garden Resort' this place is both lovely and expensive. 'Walk in Rates' start at around 3 000 baht per night + with breakfast but dicounts starting from about 30 off are easily available from the many hotel booking agencies out there on the Web specializing in Thailand.

I shopped around and got a good 'Net Rate.' Please note that local tax + will normally be added onto the room rate and onto any food and beverages and any other services you may have. In my opinion this hotel is one of the most luxurious and best run (3) in town.

Without a doubt though 'The Marriott' is in the very best position (of any hotel for that matter in Pattaya) being practically next door to all the action and the best shopping centres. Why pay for transport? Hotel is in two main sections. The main high rise building overlooks the sea garden or town and the slightly more expensive 'Garden Terrace' low rise wing overlooks the gigantic pool area and beautiful grounds.

The hotel has 3 main entrances; Reception is off Pattaya's busy Second Road by 'Delanys' Irish Pub. There is a private entrance connecting hotel guests with the Royal Garden Shopping Centre and there is another private entrance direct to the Beach road sea front. Security is discreet unobtrusive - 24 hours a day (as long as any guests you might have are (at best) checked into your room when you actually check-in at reception or (at worst) registered under the correct (and expensive) channels - this is not the type of place to breath alcohol fumes over reception while you try to introduce your new friend at twenty five past two in the morning. I too hope these ridiculous early closing hours resume back to normal.

My room amongst the 'Garden Terrace' was more of a suite with a nice little outside seating area right on the lawn overlooking the pool and another comfortable seating area indoors. Massive double kingsize bed TV with far too many English speaking channels and pay movies both family foreign language and adult. Mini bar bath robes slippers complimentary toiletries - everything you could possibly want was there for the guests including your own in room safe deposit box. Good 24 hour room service menu as well as express laundry and evening turn down bed service. Breakfast is either served in your room in bed if you like or in the main coffee shop. Everything available from sushi crispy bacon to a mushroom omelette cooked to order. Service from housekeeping reception to the pool side bar and restaurant faultless.

Hotel has tennis courts a very exclusive health club offering several types of massage and the hotel manages two other restaurants inside the Royal Garden Shopping centre. If money is no object (within reason) this is the perfect place to stay in Pattaya even if it is only for a couple of days to become acclimatized. This hotel made me feel very welcome indeed.

Pros: Super location short walking distance of everywhere. No guest problems if you book the hotel independently.
Cons: Guest problems if you are on a package.

I have stayed in the Marriott since my first trip to Pattaya back in 1997. A travel agent friend and I were in Bangkok and with a few days to spare we decided we would hit Pattaya. I can't remember what price we paid but there were no guest problems. The next year I went again this time on a package. Sure enough there were problems bringing guests back I think they charged 800B for each one. Since then I have gone independently and although the rate per night is higher there are no guest problems. I can't compare the Marriott with any other Pattaya hotels as I haven't stayed wnywhere else. I have stayed in the JW Marriott in Bangkok - no guest problems.

Pros: Nice pool good service.
Cons: No guests allowed. You can bring someone in thru the Mall/Spa entrance.

We stayed 22/1/02 thru 28/01/02. I travelled to Pattaya with my 13y/o daughter. Less then 5 minute walk to Walking Street around the corner from Pattayaland I II. I liked when we were inside the resort we were away from all the XXX. Standard Marriott service and decent food. I would stay there again.

Pros: Location pool friendly staff .
Cons: Overpriced rooms quite small.

After being in Pattaya a few nights I realised I had paid well over the top for a decent hotel. I also made the mistake of booking the vacation through a package deal...oh well you live and learn. I paid extra for a sea-view room (?) and I suppose I could just see the sea from one corner of the balcony. As for the hotel itself perfect location right at the heart of everything and a good shopping mall adjoined to the hotel. The staff were very attentative and friendly and the service was excellent. I had no problems bringing guests back although occassionally ID had to be left with security. The room I had was nothing special and not particularly spacious but everything was spotless and the maid service was very good. All I can say really is that you can find a hotel with similar facilities for a lot less than I paid.

Pros: Location, Location, Luxury
Cons: price...possible GF problems

Stayed here 2.5 weeks in May 2002. Tentatively planning to stay 3 weeks in Fall 2004.

Hotel is very nice. Hotel staff are quiet, friendly, and attentive. Rooms smaller, but always very clean.

Location, Location, Location...inside the hotel grounds are quiet and luxurious...step outside and you're in the S. Central Pattaya action: bars/shopping/laundry/haircut...swim-up bar in pool is a perfect place to relax, as is afternoon music/drinks in the bar area. Also, a great free morning breakfast.

I never had any problems with my guests then. Just brought them in each night, no questions. I was always polite with front desk staff...maybe that had something to do with it.

I've heard that others have had guests problems, and even stories of hotel staff chasing them down to demand a 1000B joiner fee...so maybe, things have changed.

Aside from this, the hotel is great. Has to be one of the best luxury hotels...if you're willing to pay a little more, and desire to be close to it all.

Pros: Location, Beautiful Grounds, Professional Staff, Guest Friendly
Cons: None

I have stayed here on three different occasions the last in Jan 2004. The hotel is nicely appointed and the staff was very attentive on my last stay. The staff treated me and my guest well with no hassles. Two of my friends and their TGFs joined me for a small party in my room without any problems.

Pros: No problems at all with bringing guest, Beutiful pool, awesome freindly service, great location.
Cons: Maybe the price

The Hotel staff was great. Everyone speaks English almost perfectly except for the security. The security personell were very friendly. I even gave one of them money for cigaretts. There were absolutely no problems with brining guests up to my room at all. Every day when I returned my bed had orchids on the pillows. The pool are is beutiful and the bar staff is awesome as well. I stayed in the Garden Terrace rooms, which had a beutiful view of the garden area below, the only real problem was one day I was woken up by the gardners with their leaf blowers. It was after 12 in the afternoon allready so I wasn't upset. I had a beutiful woman sleeping next to me. I think it also has and awesome location. There are 3 exits; one on Beach Road and two on 2nd Road. The beach road exit is kinda hidden from view it takes you right out next to the mall entrance and the pizza hut. The other exit is right above the Shinnanagins Irish Pub/Resturant, then you have the main exit next to the back of the mall.

Pros: Location; Clean rooms
Cons: Mosquitos; Noisy

On the spare of the moment I decided to head up to Pattaya with my girlfriend for a long weekend. I called around several hotels (including the Hard Rock, where I usually stay if I go with her) but found my usual locations to be full.

The Marriott was the only decent hotel with rooms available, though they wanted to charge me far higher than the rates posted on the Internet. As I didn't have much choice (aside from not going) I decided to accept and drive over to Pattaya, arriving at almost 1am.

I was exhausted from the work day and the drive to Pattaya so all I wanted to do was go to bed. My overly-expensive room wound up being on the lower level right next to some sort of renovations that were taking place (yes, at 1am).

I called the front desk to complain and was told that they'd send someone out to quieten things down. 10 minutes passed, 15 minutes passed- still that damn noise. I went outside to find out what was making such a racket and saw that a worker had set up a wheel literally under my room in a service corridor- he was grinding some sort of metal pieces.

Went back to the room and called the front desk who said they'd send someone right away (again). To make matters worse the room was full of mosquitoes and I had already bitten, making me even more aggravated.

Finally I put my shoes on and walked over to the front desk. I saw why it was taking so long to respond to me- there was a line of people at the front desk. Talked with the assembled crowd and found out that most people were checking out, due to the noise and/or the mosquitoes in their room. The front desk staff (both of them) were completely overwhelmed by this and the constant phone calls they were getting from rooms.

Several people asked to be moved to other rooms and were told the hotel was completely full so were leaving. I waited patiently and asked in Thai if there was any other room available, even if it was a lesser room as my girlfriend and I were so tired and just wanted to sleep. To my surprise they told me yes they could move me. Problem solved as it was away from the din, but the room was also infested with mosquitoes- maybe it was the room of someone who had checked out.

The next day I found out why the late-night construction- it was the grand opening of the Marriott's new pool and local bigwigs had been invited to the party- so of course the decorations had to be finished on time, guests be damned.

I realize that this most likely was a one-time issue, but it was truly an awful experience and I wound up checking out the next morning vowing never to go back. The irony is that I decided on the Marriott (instead of the countless cheaper hotels) as I wanted a comfortable hassle-free night... and wound up getting completely the opposite.

Gave the hotel 3/10 instead of 1 for its location- right next to the Royal Garden shopping mall.

Pros: Clean room, location, friendly staff
Cons: Can't think of any

Got great rate on planetholiday.com of $88 per night for ocean view/king/non-smoking (7th floor is non-smoking floor). No joiner fees at all but she has to leave her id at desk unless you bring her back before guard starts the evening shift at around 7pm. Just enter through the mall entrance to the left of the elevator and nobody bothers you. Nice helpful staff. Great Garden Restaurant with free buffet breakfast each morning from 6-10am. Two great foot massage places right across the street. For the best foot massage in Pattaya ask for Sa. She'll beat the heck out of your feet. Benihana's and Sizzler right next door in the adjoining mall as well as Au Bon Pain, Dairy Queen, McDonald's, and Burger King. Also a first run movie theatre on 3rd floor of mall with movies in English with Thai subtitles. Shower in the room has hard steady water pressure which I love. Super clean room with King Bed and satellite tv with CNBC, CNN, ESPN Asia, and more. Killer mini-bar has everything. Centrally located in Pattaya walking distance to everything. Has three entrances and exits: the front desk, the mall and the main strip next to the mall. Beautiful pool area with waterfalls. Internet is way too expensive at the hotel but just walk across the street and to the left a half block and their is a place that charges 1 baht per minute!!! This is my new Pattaya home for future visits. Full on 5 stars in my book.

Pros: Clean, Great Staff
Cons: Expensive

Great hotel with friendly staff. Located close by to alot of night time activity areas. Nice pool thats is actually deep at one end.

No guest problems at all, though I normally would bring guests via the rear beach road entry area.
