Residence Garden Hotel

Posted by tangent Mar 2012
Have stayed at the RG on all my trips and have never had a problem. It is a great hotel with friendly helpful staff. The rooms are large and I like the 2 seperate ac units, the in room safe is large enough to hold my laptop, camera, ipod and papers.

I checked in on Feb 13, 2006 and checked out on Feb 18.. The room was actually better than expected. This was a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen area, large fridge, microwave & stove. This room was on the 2nd floor in the rear and overlooked the rear swimming pool. The room was clean and looked to have been renovated recently. Bathroom was clean and fixtures looked new as well. Shower is in the bathtub and I prefer a seperate shower stall and I could have one at the Marriott for an additional $100 US per night so in this case it's not an issue. The suite has 1 tv located in the living room and that's fine as I had other entertainment in the bedroom. Girlfriend liked the hotel as they respect your privacy and treat her with respect as well. It was nice having the kitchen for the fridge however I prefer to eat meals out and enjoyed the nightly bar-b-ques at the hotel restaurant. The cost of wireless internet is much less than in most hotels. Overall I have not found a better buy for the price charged and will stay at the Residence Garden again.

Stayed at the Residence Garden from October 23 to November 3, 2006. Could not fault the place. Will definitely be staying there again. It is a 10 minute bus ride into Walking Street (get off at the VC Hotel and cut through). You can walk it easily in 15 minutes. There is a Family Mart dead opposite which is open 24 hours. The food is good and all the girls liked the Thai food from the RG kitchen. Mini bar prices were reasonable.

I always stay at the Residence Garden when in Pattaya. There are cheaper places and there are better places, but for value for money it cannot be beaten. It is a little way out of town which means that it is quiet, and you don't have to leave your hotel to escape the hussle of downtown Pattaya, but it is only a 5 minute walk from Walking Street (and baht busses go past).

The staff are all really friendly - especially once you've stopped there a couple of times and they know you. The rooms are excellent, and the TGs love it. There are tow pools, but hardly anyone ever uses the "back" one, so you can pretty much have a whole pool to yourself if you so wish.

The Residence Garden is owned by a guy called Ib Ottesen from Scandiwegia and as well as the Hotel business he has a thriving yacht agency for Hans Christian yachts and also has been known to force out some Country Western music himself from time to time. Ib is a really nice guy.

The Residence Garden consist of apartment hotel rooms rather than just rooms. The new wing is now called the Garden Suites and both comfortable and reasonable. The hotel has the Captain's Corner as its restaurant and Winston has raved about this a few times. I must say that the 295 baht eat all the meat and fish you want barbecue is very good value. They also serve some mean Irish Coffees.

The location is actually about 5 minutes walk to the VC Hotel which as you know cuts down to the Marine Disco and Walking Street and because it is a little way from the action it is very quiet. I checked with Ib before booking that it would be all right to bring guests back and he had no problem with it at all. Also no problem with security whatsoever.

There are two excellent swimming pools and for those who are so-minded Ib has a good friend in Steve at Mermaid Diving who carries out the pool side of his training sometimes at one of the pools for PADI qualifications.

I stayed for 11 nights. Each room has a lounge with a settee and at least a table for two. A TV video fridge cooker cutlery plates etc. as well as a large balcony overlooking the pool and equipped with a table and chairs. There is a reasonable sized bathroom with shower (not bath) and good sized vanity unit.

The bedroom has ample wardrobe and draw space an electronic safe and bedside tables and lamps. There are two separate A/Cs for the lounge area and the bedroom which are independently controlled and very useful.

The cleaners are quite happy to come and clean the room when you want instead of appearing at the same time every day and all in all the place is very comfortable. They do have a web site at http://www.theresidencesuites.com and if you are in Pattaya try eating there and asking to see the rooms if you want to see for yourself.

Ib is suitably proud of the way it has all turned out.

2 Alarm Fire is back alive and well from Pattaya. My buddy and I are forever changed men. We owe a great deal of respect and thanks to our new friend IB at RG.

The hotel was immaculate. The buffet was awsome. Words cannnot describe the level of comfort we had while staying at this fine hotel....lets call it a resort because thats the way we were treated. Only problems we had were the fact that there was no hot water in the second bathroom and the AC in the second bedroom was not fully working. One chat with IB however fixed all problems within 15 minutes. What service!!!!

He has excellent staff who take care of all your needs. This hotel in my books will be the one I stay at from now on. We had the 2 room suite top floor on the side, room 2501. I'm sure the place had to be sterilized prior to next occupancy because of the amount of daubachery that occured.

All in all it was out of the fray of things which was nice to come back to, and the big kicker was that the ladies really liked it! It was quiet, except for the constant fireworks because of the Chinese New Year and that was understandable.

Ib....beware...I'm bringing more Firefighters in August and hopefully you can fit us all in.

Eternally Greatfull
